I need to find the fatest way to guess a number between one and one hundred (inclusive). By fastest I mean the fewest number of questions and they can only be yes or no questions.|||You want to ask question that reduces the number of possibilities by half each time. When you have only two or three possibilities left, take guesses.
So I have a number, and I chose it so that it will take the maximum number of ways with the algorithm.
First: "Is it greater than 50?" NO. So it's between 1 and 50.
Second: "Is it greater than 25?" YES. So it's between 26 and 50.
Third: "Is it greater than 38?" NO. So it's between 26 and 38.
Fourth: "Is it greater than 32?" NO. So it's between 26 and 32.
Fifth: "Is it greater than 29?" NO. So it's between 26 and 29.
Sixth: "Is it greater than 27?" YES. So it's either 28 or 29.
Seventh: "Is it 28?" NO. So it's 29.
Eighth: "Is it 29?" YES.
It will always take between six and eight questions.|||To be fastest you need to reduce the possibilities by half each time.
It's boring but is it between 1 and 50?
Then between either 1 and 25, or 51-75.
Then 1 and 13, or 26 to 37, or 51 to 63 or 75 to 87, depending on the previous answer.
Then half again and continue until you get the answer.|||9 moves tops ask someone to think of a number between 1-100 the only answer they can give is higher or lower so you say each time you halve your remaining guess so say the number is 36 guessed you start 50 (lower) 25 (higher) 37 (lower) 32 (higher) 35 (higher) you can only be left with 36
some guesses take a little bit longer but deffo no more than 9 moves|||Golden section optimization is the fastest method.
Proportion 38 and 62
Check if the number is greater than 38
Then divide the segment in the same proportion.|||is it more than 50...?
if yes...
is it more than 75?
if no...
then is it more than 62?
...
get the drift?
but am not sure if this is the fastest method|||Is the number even?
Just kicked 50 numbers out of the game :)

Movie with doctors killing people and other doctors have to guess?
What's the name of the movie when there's doctors that kill people and the other doctors have to guess how the person died?|||pathology http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0964539/
What is the world record for highest amount of milk produced by a woman in a day? I guess my wife could make a?
What is the world record for highest amount of milk produced by a woman in a day? I guess my wife could make a record if she knows the world record. She often produces over 1.25 liters of milk everyday.|||Well done!
I think she has been beaten by a woman in China who produced about 2 liters a day. She fed her baby, husband, self, mother and still had more left. She ended up giving baby milk baths so as not to waste it.|||cool
start making some cheese brother.|||Yeah, that's a lot. I don't know that you should tell people that.|||it's supply and demand, anyone would produce that much if it was required.|||I dont always drink milk but when i preffer it from dog sboob, stay milky my friends

Physics Can you guess the maximum efficiency with which useful mechanical work can be extracted from the pond?
In solar ponds contructed in Israel, the Sun's energy is concentrated near the bottom of a salty pond. With the proper layering of salt in the water, convection is prevented and temperatures of 100 C may be reached. Can you guess the maximum efficiency with which useful mechanical work can be extracted from the pond?
This question has something to do with thermodynamics|||The maximum efficiency in thermodynamics (work extracted from heat flow between two reservoirs at different temperatures) is 1-Tc/Th , where Tc and Th are the temperatures of the cold and hot reservoir respectively.
Hence in your example the max efficiency, assuming the air temperature is 20 C, is
1 - 293/393 = 0.254 , i.e. 25.4%

Can anyone guess what part to repair: engine is leaking, check engine light only goes off for a few days after?
It's a Chevy Cavalier, 2001 Just guess, what this means: The engine is leaking, (but only a small amount), check engine light only goes off for a few days after getting an oil change, and then a few days later the check engine light is back on again; what kind of weird engine leak could it be?
|||My guess is that there is a low oil sensor in the oil pan. When the oil level gets below this sensor, the light comes on. Perhaps the leaking oil is getting too low (not a good thing) and the light is coming on. Did you check your oil level after the light comes on? Where are the leaks coming from? You need to examine the car for any leaks.|||Ford dealer jobby if you don't know how|||Make sure the bolt to the oil pan is tight.

If someone asks you to guess their age or the age of another person. How do you reply?
A) mentally guess the age then subtract a few years
B) be honest
C) add numerous years so you won't be asked again
C- for me, add 20 years jokingly so no one will be offended
Bonus question- does it matter if the persons age you are guessing a male or a female?|||Depends on how well I know this person, and how young they really look.
If they look young, I would pick B
If I knew them well, I would pick C
If they didn't look very young, I would pick A|||For a person who seems to be under age 30, go high. Tell people who look like they're five years old that they look like they're twelve.
For anyone over that, go low. It makes them feel younger.
As for male or female, not really. If they're asking you to guess their age, they're asking for the same thing.|||I usually use C except that I jokingly subtract 20 years...I say something along the lines of not a day over 21 or something to that effect. Especially if you are talking to a woman...it will always make her feel better if you say she looks incredibly young.|||B. Bonus question. No.|||um.. well if the guy/girl looks older than me I'll say that he must've been born when the titanic sunk =P Or if I'm in a "serious mood" -_- *serious face* I'll be honest but remind them that I "suck at guessing people's ages or weight" so that way, if I guess wrong, which I usually would/do, I would be free from offending too harsh =D|||A. It doesn't matter about the gender.|||I hate when people ask that. It's just the games people play, they're either looking for a compliment or looking to be insulted.
I do the same as you, and no it doesn't matter the gender.|||I just tell them I haven't put that much thought into and can't even wager a guess.
I think it comes off as a bit arrogant when people ask that. Like we all just sit around staring at them, watching their mannerisms and just racking our brains with speculation about their age.
Either that or they're just trying to pick a fight.|||If they have the power to make me miserable, I pretend I'm horrible with guessing ages and flatter them with a relatively close but low guess (I'm usually awesome at guessing, this works well).
If they have no power at all, I'll give them a realistic guess. Shuts them up pretty fast, or they're impressed and call it a party trick.
When in doubt and I think it could bite me in the ***, I go for just saying I have never been good at guessing and I don't want to embarrass myself. Then they show me some sympathy and it's all over ^5|||I have a problem guessing women's ages, so I get into trouble with that one.
But, I'm pretty much within 2 years in guessing a man's age.
I just turned 60, and I look like I'm 10-15 years younger. I have been referred to my sister as her "younger brother," she's 52, and she gets pissed. Women are more sensitive to age than a man is.

What is the destination game where you have to guess where they end up?
There is this game where you start in a city or a state and you fly to another city or state and stay there for so many nights and then go somewhere else and then you have to guess where that person ended up... but it has nothing to do with the last place they stopped!
How does this game work and how can I figure out how to win?|||whats the game called?|||The game is based on the first letter of the place in which they travel to, the amount of days spent in that place, and sports teams. Days spent in a destination means a certain vowel...so 1 day is A, 2 days is E, 3 days is I...etc.
