How can i solve this math word problem, without just using guess and check?

At McDonalds you can ordr Chicken McNuggets in boxes of 6,9 and 20. What is the largest number such that you can not order any combination of the above to achieve exactly the number you want?|||the number *orderable* is in the form of

= 6x + 9y + 20z

it is clear that any multiple of 3 (other than 3 itself) is orderable (by setting z = 0).

also, any multiple of 20 is also orderable (by setting x = y = 0).

answer = 3 + (3 - 1) * 20 = 43
