I am wondering if anyone on here can give me an idea what mental illness I am dealing with in regards to my sister. I am not sure what details to provide about her behaviour, I would appreciate someone who knows what details they need to make an educated guess, just ask for what you need to know and I will provide the details.|||She may have borderline personality disorder. It is similar to bi-polar disorder, but bipolar mood swings are weeks apart. Borderline people have mood swings hours and days apart and are very paranoid, and can be very mean to people who love them. My friend was misdiagnosed with bipolar when she is in fact borderline.

There is help out there!! Good luck.|||what does she do out of the ordinary?|||We need to know, what she does, thats un-normal!|||Ok, so obviously I don't know as much as I thought. Maybe you can't diagnose her. Try taking her to a doctor. Then he'll help you from there. Good luck.|||You are probably best not trying to make a diagnosis on your own, even with the consultation of something like a mental health manual.
A professional should make the diagnosis.|||Obviously she has some particular behaviour that is concerning you or you wouldn't have asked the question.
Tell us why you suspect she has a condition and we may be able to help further.|||It's really dangerous to speculate, especially if you plan on confronting your sister or making decisions on her behalf based on what you conclude. Gather your thoughts and go to a palce like webmd.com to check her symptoms, but only an MD's opinion should have a bearing on her treatment in the end.|||Why are you concerned about her? What aspects of her behaviour do you consider unusual? What has she said about the way she is feeling? Has she suffered any recent physical or mental trauma?|||Misdiagnoses is all to common...... take her to a psychiatrist!!!|||you need to be much more specific about any odd things she might be doing and why you think she may have a mental illness in the first place. in the meantime, here is a link you can check out. http://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/persdiso鈥?/a>|||read the DSM-4, it'll provide you with all the information you need. i'm sure you'll find what she suffers from in there.|||You should give us all her Symptoms ..like what excatly she does to make you think she has a mental illness...
Description:
When a person's feelings of sadness persist beyond a few weeks, he or she may have depression. According to the National Institute for Mental Health, three to four million men are affected by depression; it affects twice as many women. Researchers do not know the exact mechanisms that trigger depression. Two neurotransmitters-natural substances that allow brain cells to communicate with one another-are implicated in depression: serotonin and norepinephrine.
Symptoms:
Changes in appetite and sleeping patterns; feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and inappropriate guilt; loss of interest or pleasure in formerly important activities; fatigue; inability to concentrate; overwhelming sadness; disturbed thinking; physical symptoms such as headaches or stomachaches; and suicidal thoughts or behaviors.
Thats some of the Symptoms.your sister might be having...but theres alot of different disorders it could be.|||She should be evaluated by a psychatrist. You can't really diagnose her, but it does sound like she has some problems.|||When I need medical answers I go to Webmd. I will put the link below. My mom suffers mental illness as well. You can also take her to a psychiotrist and have her diagnosed that way.|||Maybe she is telling the truth or telling the lies to cover something else bad that happend to her. Just because you lived in the same house as her it doesnt mean you had the same upbringing as she did. I wouldnt just label her as mentally ill if i were you, try and get her to see a counsellor/therapist and hopefully that will help.
