How hard is it for people to guess the speed of a car?

I included that statement into my report, but i just need a reference for it. Anyone have any experiments done that proves it's hard for people to guess the speed of a car?|||Even trained professionals can't be accurate, the best way to show the perception that people might have is to actually do a field experiment. You get some volunteers and get them to estimate the speed of a passing car which is controlled by you or a member of your team. You will see that the answers will vary, and out of 10 people not one will be pin point accurate. Good luck, I know that the police do speed control from the air, using two yellow points painted on the side of the highway and they will time you. They know the distance and thus are able to calculate your speed based on your time.|||from where, another car or your house? it takes practice and a little math...speed x time = distance, figure using feet per second, then measure the frontage on your house... convert seconds to hours and feet to miles ...100 ft at 3 seconds = 23mph|||I don't even try. Where I live there is rarely any other traffic on the Highway and the Police cruise through every Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM.

I simply drive at the speed that is most comfortable to me at the time. Some days that will be 60 MPH and on other days that will be 85-90 MPH. I very rarely bother to check the speedometer.
