Holy Bible and read it?
If I had to guess I would say less than 1%, that's my guess!
With that being said, I would also guess a lot of them have probably heard bogus preachers preach, as a lot of preachers are bogus, but, actually reading the word is a completely different story!|||idk dude. When I'm on R%26amp;S I feel like I'm one of the only Atheists who has never read the bible and doesn't plan to. Some of these people would totally kickass on like, BibleJeopardy if that existed.|||I鈥檓 an atheist and I have read the Bible in the KJV, NIV, New Living, and NASB versions. I was raised Christian and went to church virtually every time the doors were open as well as attending other churches, seminars, and revival meetings. My brother is an ordained minister and I talked with him in his training. I helped establish a new church (while still a Christian). I have spoken at length with various pastors and ministers and theologians. I still say that the entire religion is false. Can you say that you have investigated other religions to the extent I have investigated Christianity before you claim that they are all wrong while yours is right? How about you back your **** down before making unfounded assumptions about atheists--you are only showing how much you assume and how very little about reality you know.|||I was raised catholic. We used a different version of the bible. I've read sections and still have own a copy. Was sent to catholic high school and had 4 years of religion classes. I don't think the priests I grew up with were bogus at all. What I mean is that they were sincere men (who did not abuse children), who honestly were trying to help their parishioners live their lives according to catholic beliefs. I still have respect for some of them, misguided as they were.
I don't think being exposed to the bible, even one with beautiful language like the KJV supposedly has, does anything to prevent people from eventually becoming atheists.|||You realize that the overwhelming majority of atheists in the US were once Christian, right?
I lost my faith BECAUSE I read the Bible, about halfway through Genesis.
Believe what you'd like, I went to a Catholic school, later became a Baptist. I was baptized in the holy spirit, attended youth groups every Wednesday, and later volunteered at the Church day-care. I was a Christian for 25 years before I actually read the Bible, and when I did, I was horrified.|||All I can say is that I am an atheist and I have read both the KJV and NIV of the bible. I know of at least four other atheists in my life who have done the same. I'd guess that your estimate of less than 1% is way off. I think you would find if you polled it properly, that far greater that 50% of atheists have read the bible in one shape or form.|||Depending on where the atheists in question were raised, you could be quite wrong. Those raised in predominantly christian areas or by christian families are likely to be intimately familiar with the KJV, NIV, etc. Many atheists are far better versed in theology than theists, that very study being what made them atheists.
I have personally had to explain trans-substantiation to several catholics who had no idea what it was they subscribed to.|||How many Christians have ever read the Bible straight through? I know, when I was reading my Bible for the first time, most of my religious friends were impressed because they never had. Which is kind of sad, but....
How many Christians do you suppose have read the Vedas or the Koran or the P膩li Canon?|||Your guess?
Well I've read chunks of the KJV, though not all of it. Part of that when I was a Christian, but more since. Reading it helped me become an atheist.
So, what's your guess based on; is it just simply picking a number between 1 and 100, and you counted as high as you can go?|||Self proclaimed. I love it. Who else is going to proclaim it for me? (see how trying to be a smart guy can backfire?) And to answer your question, yes (hence my self proclamation!)
****Just to help you out....
"He is a self-proclaimed genius" ie. whether he is a genius or not is up for debate. There is no debate when it comes to me being an atheist.|||I'd bet its more like 80% in the areas that are mostly Christian. I have
It legitimately is only about 10% of Christians though: http://healtheland.wordpress.com/2008/01鈥?/a>|||It wasn't until I really started reading the bible, and various versions at that, that my lack of belief became so firm. No true God could produce such a mess of a text and dozens of interpretations of that text.|||Actually it seems that most atheists know more about your religion than you know, i know i have read the bible cover to cover, and both testaments.|||Too Bad the King James Bible Was Compiled For Political Reasons And Not Spiritual Reasons.|||I am not atheist but many actually do read the bible, and this is so they can have the upper hand when they debate against Christians, which most have not read more then 5 pages of the bible.|||I'd say your percentage is way too high. I would also guess that more than 99% of them have never stepped foot in a church in their lives, in spite of the bogus claims that they have. Next question, please.|||You say that, yet in my experience, the average atheist knows far more about the stupid book than the average Christian, and that includes Yours Truly.|||to be quite honest the bible has been re-written so many times most of the versions of the bible were pulled straight out of the *** of who ever decided to re-write it.|||One of the main reasons I'm an atheist... I was a baptized Christian for over 10 years, atheist now for over 45...
Have YOU read that thing???
So, just how do you pick which preacher is bogus?|||The King James Version is the least accurate. But to answer your question, most atheists have read much of, if not all of, the Bible.|||A lot of preachers are bogus? Well, it looks like morons can sleep right through pastor school. Makes you wonder about the entire Church, doesn't it? From the mouth of a believer himself!|||Probably at least 90%. Atheists, like Pagans, are often (Usually?) led away from Christianity AFTER studying it more closely, rather than just believing what they're told.|||I have read the kjv more than 50 times, that's the reason I am an atheist.|||Please don't bring the King James Version around here. There have been more than 2,000 mistakes proven in the KJV.
Notice: It's a Version, not a translation.|||I have and I know many atheists have, how many other versions of the bible have you read? They are all equally fiction.|||I read most of the NIV (I was raised as a Christian to adulthood, attending church 3 nights a week). In what ways is the King James version less idiotic than the other ones?|||I actually have two King James bibles myself, and have read them for years now. I think your assumption is misplaced.|||I was raised a christian and only stopped believing after I read the bible.|||My guess is well over 75%. The quickest way to become an atheist is read the bible.|||I usually know more about the Bible than most of the so-called Christians I debate with do.|||Reading the bible made me what I am today.
An atheist|||How do you think they became atheists in the first place?
By reading that great book of illogic!
